EXAM WEEK
August 3-9
Schedule and more details to come

At Phoenix, exams are much more than just an assessment - they're a fun opportunity for students to showcase everything they've been learning in class and celebrate their progress.
Throughout the year, students work towards their exam routines and exercises in class, building confidence as exam week approaches.
Students perform their exam work for an examiner in a friendly and supportive environment. Think of it as a mini performance where students get the chance to shine, demonstrate their skills, and be recognised for all their hard work.
On exam day, students wear a number so the examiner can easily identify and keep track of each student throughout the examination. They perform the work they have been learning in class and are guided through the process by the examiner.
At Phoenix, exams are not about being perfect - they're about celebrating progress. Every student starts somewhere, and examinations provide an opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence, and be recognised for the hard work they put into class each week.
Whether a student is sitting their first exam or their tenth, our goal is for every child to leave feeling proud of what they have achieved!

Exams give students a purpose with the work they are learning and is something exciting to work towards.
Over the years, we've found that exam preparation is where we see some of the biggest growth in our students. Having a clear goal helps students stay focused, motivated, and engaged in class, often resulting in significant improvements in both confidence and technique.
Exams help students:
Work towards a meaningful goal
Build confidence and resilience
Improve technique and performance skills
Develop focus, discipline, and commitment
Receive valuable feedback on their progress
Celebrate their achievements
Most importantly, exams give students a real sense of accomplishment and pride in what they have achieved.
This year, every student who passes their exam will also receive a special Phoenix trophy to celebrate their achievement 💛

We recommend exams for all students in a aged 5-18 class
-
For 2026 Exams are just $35 per exam.
This is a significant reduction from previous years, made possible by the introduction of our own in-house syllabus. By delivering examinations internally, we have removed the external examination fees that were previously required.
Students sit one exam per style. For example, a student enrolled in Jazz and Hip Hop would sit two separate exams. Exam costs will be capped at $140 per student.
-
No. Exams are completely optional, however we highly recommend them for all students aged 5 and over.
Students who work towards exams tend to make the greatest progress, as much of the class learning is geared towards exam goals and milestones. Having a goal to work towards gives students extra motivation and purpose in class, which often results in greater improvement.
If you wish for your child to progress with their class, we would strongly recommend participating in examinations.

It is very unlikely that a student will not pass their examination.
Our teachers carefully place students into the appropriate level and only enter students for work that is achievable for them. If a student attends classes regularly and participates in their exam preparation, they are typically very well prepared.
Our goal is for every student to walk away feeling successful, proud, and motivated to continue growing.

If your child attends class regularly and participates in exam preparation, they are likely ready. Our teaching team will always guide families and let you know if we have any concerns.
-
Absolutely! Feeling nervous is completely normal.
The good news is that students are very well prepared before exam day. Our teachers practise everything with them in class, including how to enter the room, where to stand, how to greet the examiner, and what to expect throughout the examination.
By the time exam week arrives, students know exactly what they need to do and are supported every step of the way. Most students finish their exam saying how much fun it was and how lovely the examiner was!
